Context
The live screens of the Axis product are the most critical part of the user experience, as these make up the digital collaboration experience for both user groups (Host & Participants). When redesigning these screens, we wanted users to be able to easily navigate through, comprehend and enhance their live workshop experience via use of Axis features in a digital space. By allowing the user to do so easily, this builds upon the already-proven basic product offering of ideation, evaluation and action in workshopped problem solving.
Solution
Multiple design decisions fed into the final solution to ultimately enhance our user experience within the live screens; these included: refinement of the fundamental live screen journey; development and redesign of a workshop’s persistent skeleton features; newly redesigned activity-specific features within live screen use cases for both desktop and mobile.
Impact
The user journey was refined through elimination of unnecessary steps in combination with inserting journey appropriate break steps with clearer signposting. This made the user journey much more organic, structured and constructive. Skeleton features were reorganised and grouped according to function as well as with respect to their relevance to the current part of the user journey within the workshop. This, alongside UI additions to bring further attention to key features, ensured the user had convenient access to all features that would enhance their workshop experience.
Finally, the integration of activity-specific features and components with the new user journey and skeleton resulted in a more effective use of screen real estate and more usable, equitable and enjoyable user experience. This was possible due to overarching application of design vision when designing and adherence to fundamental Axis UX principles.
